Science of Anaerobic Digestion – Upcoming Biogas Biomass and RNG Conferences

Conferences about the Science of AD (Anaerobic Digestion) plus biogas Production and use follow. Biogas and AD is discussed at numerous conferences every year. Thus they are the subject of this Eurobic 11 web article in which we have curated excerpts with attributions for each in order to provide a conference listing resource for our readers.

Biogas Science is a growing discipline and there are many conference events at which scientific papers are presented on anaerobic digestion and biogas topics, and the further development of this form of fermentation technology is discussed.

Biogas is a name that can be applied both to the gas obtained from biodigestion and to the gas mixture obtained from biomass thermal conversion processes such as gasification and pyrolysis.

An Introduction to the Scope of Biogas Science

Biogas production is a well-established process for energy generation, nutrient recovery, and economic use of organic residues. Typically, the biogas is composed of methane, carbon dioxide, and other impurities. The removal or transformation of carbon dioxide (biogas upgrading) and the purification from other contaminants (biogas cleaning) are essential for increasing the calorific value of biogas.

The climate change agenda is raising recent renewable energy demands. Therefore, the interest in placing the biogas sector as a keystone in circular bio-based economy is high. Many societies are paving the way for establishing new technologies for upgrading the biogas quality. via sciencedirect.com

Biogas can be compressed, the same way as natural gas is compressed to CNG, and used to power motor vehicles. In the United Kingdom, for example, biogas is estimated to have the potential to replace around 17% of vehicle fuel.

It qualifies for renewable energy subsidies in some parts of the world. Biogas can be cleaned and upgraded to natural gas standards, when it becomes bio-methane. Biogas is considered to be a renewable resource because its production-and-use cycle is continuous, and it generates no net carbon dioxide.

As the organic material grows, it is converted and used. It then regrows in a continually repeating cycle. From a carbon perspective, as much carbon dioxide is absorbed from the atmosphere in the growth of the primary bio-resource as is released, when the material is ultimately converted to energy. via wikipedia.org

The Conference of Biogas Science 2018 in Torino

At the conference there were 13 sessions and a total of 74 oral presentations and 45 poster presentations (plus 6 keynotes and 6 warm up lectures).

After the successful conferences in Italy, Germany, Austria and Hungary, the organisers were glad to announce the fifth edition of the Biogas Science International Conference (Biogas Science 2020).The event will take place in Uppsala, Sweden, on Autunm 2020 (click picture to visit website).

The scientific programme will include poster, plenary sessions with keynote speakers and parallel sessions on September 17th and 18th. Study tours are scheduled for September 19th.

The purpose of the Biogas Science 2018 conference is to provide a platform for scientific exchange of knowledge concerning technology, agronomy, chemistry & biology and economy within the anaerobic digestion sector.

The sponsoring ACEA company is investing in the future perspective of the circular economy concept hosting demo plants for the recovery of high-added value compounds. via biogas-science2018.it

28th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (EUBCE)

The 28th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (EUBCE) will be held in Marseille, France, from 27th to 30th of April 2020.

The 28th EUBCE will expand its portfolio from energy related biomass production and conversion of bio-based feedstock to other sectors of the economy and will now integrate the bioeconomy into its conference programme.

There has been a great response to EUBCE 2020 call for papers.

International Biomass Conference & Expo Nashville

The International Biomass Conference and Expo will be held on February 3-5, at the 2020 Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, Nashville, TN.

This conference unites current and future producers of biomass-derived power, fuels and chemicals with waste generators, energy crop growers, municipal leaders, utility executives, technology providers, equipment manufacturers, project developers, investors and policy makers.

The event fosters public and private partnerships that help bio-energy producers and large-scale waste generators identify and assess available production resources and viable technology solutions for improving operational efficiencies and reducing industrial greenhouse gas emissions.

Volatile energy costs, mounting climate change concerns and the anticipation of federal carbon cap-and-trade policies are compelling waste generators to think differently – much differently – about waste liabilities and, in some cases, the rising value of already valuable process side streams. via biomassconference.com

Biogas West 2020

Biogas West 2020 will take place from 2020-01-14 to 2020-01-15, in  Vancouver, Canada.
Building on from last year’s success, the 2020 Value of Biogas West Conference is anticipated to attract more than 200 attendees.

Attendees will comprise of biogas/RNG developers involved in agricultural and municipal sectors including landfill, waste management and wastewater, product and service technology companies, government policy makers, utilities, investors, academics, and more.

15th Global Summit & Expo on Biomass and Bioenergy, Rome

15th Global Summit & Expo on Biomass and Bioenergy will take place during September 21-22, 2020 in Rome, Italy. It will include short keynote presentations, oral talks, poster presentations and exhibitions.

Biomass and Bioenergy Conference 2020 is the learning centre for renewable energy resource utilisation. The subject will be energy derived from the carbonaceous waste of various human and natural activities.

It is derived from numerous sources, including the by-products from the timber industry, agricultural crops, raw material from the forest, major parts of household waste and wood.

As an energy source, biomass can either be used directly via combustion to produce heat, or indirectly after converting it to various forms ofbiofuel. Conversion of biomass to biofuel can be achieved by different methods which are broadly classified into thermal, chemical, andbiochemicalmethods. via biomass.expertconferences.org
